Mice move indoors in Ottawa when the nights turn cold, usually from September on. A mouse can fit through a gap about the size of a dime, so the gaps around pipes, dryer vents, garage door corners and foundation cracks all matter.

Treatment is trapping or locked bait stations placed where children and pets can't reach them, plus sealing entry points with steel wool, metal mesh and sealant. Two or three visits are typical to check and clear stations.

Heavy infestations in attics or wall cavities can mean soiled insulation. That is quoted separately.
